Raposeira

Raposeira

The small village of Raposeira was once the residence of Henry the Navigator, the fourth son of the then King of Portugal and he was the owner of several estates in the area. He lived in the village at some time, and the inconspicuous house still stands there. A little further down the road there is a small chapel, which was built by Henry the Navigator in the 13th century. Back then it was a important place, used by the local population as Santuary. The chapel has been recently renovated and it’s considered the oldest Gothic church in the Algarve.
